Hi There,

I'm Pete. I've not got an Alfa, yet... I've had a Lotus Elise for nearly five years, and loved every minute of it, but had to sell. I'm looking for something with good looks, good handling and character. And four seats. Not wanting to be boring I have been wracking my brains for something appropiate - it needs to be a daily driver, only 9 miles each way though, but with two 120 mile round trips every other weekend. I've always had a soft sport for the older alfas (mid 60s - mid 70s). Wondering whether one would be reliable enough for my needs? I'm happy doing servicing and mechanical repairs, but not body work. Any specialists near Windsor?

What has also occured to me is the 156 is also a lovely looking car. My dad had one, and liked it a lot. And they are also going for a good price.... The other car I've been considering is a Clio Williams, but I don't expect you to recommend that!

Any advice or comments appreciated!

Thanks,

Pete

Hi Petey :), a Guilia super would have done you fine but getting a bit pricey for a well sorted example.
The 164 T/S may be a bit big for you, but a real bargin pricewise and a cracking car to own, galvanised body and near bullet proof mechs if serviced properly ( and well within the range of a d.i.y. mech), and while not a Lotus can be chucked about into the smile band,
If it is a bit big for your needs then try a 145, same kind of body, but the mechs are a little different ie belt on cams unlike the 164 which is chain, but still a lot of fun and if you get a well looked after one it will be reliable and good looking for years, and if you want somthing special, the Cloverleaf 2.0 will give a 911 a run for its money.........otherwise the 1.8 is the best to get.
Hope that helps.........ps clio,s fall to bits :).

Thanks for the welcome folks. Going to have a look at a v6 156 today hopefully... Typical British summer weather though!

Cheers!

Put a deposit down on a v6 156 - yum. Get it on Tuesday - can't wait! What a relief not to have to drive a beemer, vw or audi ;-) Nice sort of metallic mid blue - paramour blue? Momo leather. And the v6 sound track!

Cheers,

Pete

Wow, nice 156. I think that is a very rare blue you have, most were either Vela or Cosmos. :) Whats the sticker in the boot say?
