try starting it with the accelerator slightly pressed, might get the fuel to feed thru.

as for the lack of gear selection, id say the selespeed actuator is at fault. not sure of a price for this but i seem to recall its not a cheap-o.

hope you get things sorted. try doing a quick forum search (search button at the top of every page) for selespeed fault or selespeed actuator, should bring up plenty, your not the first!

Can't be of any assistance either I'm afraid. Some of these Selespeeds do seem to present ongoing problems. Anyone own a Selespeed with extensive mileage on the clock, that has been relatively free from faults/problems?

zulu, mine has 63k on the clock and the selespeed system has NEVER even suggested its considering faulting. in fact the only time ive seen the selespeed warning lamp on was when the cambelt snapped and wiped the engine out!

That's fantastic, encouraging news Marko.Sad news about the cambelt though, bad luck? Still, suppose most motors suffer faults of one sort or another. Always expect the unexpected, just hope the 'slush fund' will cope for eventualities.

battery shouldnt affect the sele but you obviously need a fulyl charged battery at all times!

we dont all have problems with our alfas, its just the worst stories always make the biggest impression so you get a much worse view of them

Hi Shn
Sorry to hear about your problems, sorry I can't really help, I'm not that knowledgable on modern cars like these, all I know about Alfas is what I've learnt and researched about my Sele problems in the last few weeks.

What springs to mind though, is you said it was going to be a £600 fix. Well the pumps, I've found out, are £250 new, the actuators are £600. Are you sure they didn't just say it was the pump for simplicity?

I'd seriously recommend an Alfa Specialist, like AlfaWorkshop in Royston, Herts, or Avanti in Ipswich (where I'm taking mine next week)
What I have found is these guys are really friendly to even just chat about your problem is, even if just for advice if they're too far for you to get to.

I agree - a decent specialist will diagnose the problem for you - it will then be up to you to decide whether to pay to fix it or not.

Ben - I am an Avanti fan (almost enjoy taking my problems there) - what is the problem with your car?

Paul.

Paul- Look up my post 'Selespeed sticking me in Neutral'! I's driving me mad! It's started doing it daily now (Which, at least is a good thing if I want it diagnosed!!)plus displaying random gear numbers on the screen. Yesterday it gave me Neutral while half-in half-out pulling out on a busy road, which was a bit hairy! Luckily I'm going to leave it with them when I go on holiday next weekend, hopefully I'll come back to a fix car (and a huge bill no doubt!)

Hi Evel, Looks like some of us have Selespeeds that are functional, whilst others have Selespeeds that are disfunctional. Mileage doesn't seem to be that much of a relative factor. Wonder if some of it comes down to useage, or how it has been treated. Do you reckon expectations are too high? Doubt if it's a Formula 1 Electro-Hydraulic system. So perhaps too much is expected of a relatively low cost invention. Tough on these guy's with problems though, especially if it becomes expensive in the process. Certainly been a comprehensive discussion over a fairly extended period of time. Kept my one finger typing, poor spelling, and atrocious grammar on the go. Hope those with problems get them resolved shortly, with not too much expense involved. Best of Luck chaps.
