Advice please on an Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 V6 (2000 model). October last year my cam belt snapped, which obviously caused all 24 valves to bend as well as 3 lifters had to be replaced. After standing a few months we finally found a mechanic confident enough to work on the car and he got it fixed, it started and ran beautifully….for a few hours then it just cut out and died. After hours and hours of inspection it was determined that the fuel pump relay and the injector relays were faulty replaced but for some reason the problem turned from an intermittent to a permanent fault and my mechanic is breaking his head trying to solve the problem. We had a diagnostician look at it but for some reason he can’t pick up the ECU? Please, please give me some advice, what can I do? How can we solve the problem? I live in a small little town in South African, and Alfa specialists are extremely rare here…I’ve spend thousands and thousands of South African rand on the car and I don’t know how much more my pocket can handle :'( do you have ANY advice, anything we can do or try? Mechanic is saying something about needing a wiring diagram to check all the wires. I love the car, it’s a beaut and drives like a dream. How can it go from running perfectly, to standing and getting faulty that the problem can’t be found. There must be something that we are overlooking or something that is just not adding up.. As a start point I'd check carefully the wiring to the relays in front of the battery - in UK its not uncommon for them to corrode so that although they appear to be attached there is no circuit. Also check every earth strap you can find - main one from chassis to the gearbox, and depending on the spec of your car, probably some small earths to the heads and the ECU mounting. After a major strip and rebuild, its quite possible that one connection may have been left a bit loose.
