Have a 1.8 156 on a 2000 plate bought some new HT leads and it is still mis firing, when i start the car normally its fine i give it a little throttle and the revs completly die and it mis fires really badily when it warms up, the car eventially works fine but whiloe moving it is really gutless stuck behind a ford escort and i was afraid to over take!! :) does anyone know why this is happening, im loosing faith in the red rocket,:(

Maybe check the AFM. It's a popular problem, though your symptoms aren't typical, it's easy. Unplug the big plug that plugs in just downstram of the air filter (on a 156 I think). Leave it unplugged and see if there is any difference.

While you re at it, check all of the pipe joints from the air filter box back to the engine. Also check the rubber flexible pipe fro splits. You could have an air leak on the intake side.

The trouble is your symptoms are a bit vague. Why did you buy new HT leads? HT leads on the right plugs? Have you looked at the plugs? No other problems before it really got bad?

i will try to explain better, i replaced the ht leads because they needed it one was cracked, in regards to the starting, it stars fine but when the revs die down to a normal idle it doesnt mis fire, when i start to move the revs go straight down to almost a stall and it mis fires really badily the air box is fine and the air flow sensor is ok too also the plugs are new and properly gapped, any ideas anyone bit of a mystery huh, either that or im just a div:D

How do you know the MAF/AFM is ok?
You say "the plugs are new and properly gapped", hopefully you didn't try to change the plug gaps.
What plugs did you fit?
(although it doesn't sound like a plug problem)
