I have been quoted nearly $1300 US for a water pump change on my 2.2 JTS by my local Indie Garage, they've said its costly as its an engine out.

Is it possible to replace the water pump, even the timing chain without taking the engine out? Can anyone confirm this? Any pics or related info will be much appreciated, thank you!

Try another garage.
The timing chain certainly isn't an engine out job, I'd be absolutely amazed if the water pump was.

No it´s not. A friend of mine has this engine in 159 and they didn´t put out the whole engine just to change water pump. Try another garage indeed.
