Went to a local dealer earlier on the off chance as I passed it , said they never heard of the update, I told them about it and they said we'll take the car in on the computer to confirm any software updates, he said I was right about the update but it don't affect my car yet! (17 plate veloce) I may have to book it in again and they can instagate a ticket to AR to get the update.

I took my MY19 Veloce into D Salmon Cars in Colchester at midday, as requested, on Wednesday for the updates, which they anticipated would take a day or two. They phoned around 3:00pm to say that the BCM software update had been installed and that they needed to charge the battery and take the car on a run the next day and let it settle to allow the system to recalibrate.
They then reset the Intelligent Battery System and left the car overnight to pulse charge the battery and gave it a run on Friday morning and allowed the car to settle and the IBS software to recalibrate.
It was ready to collect at lunchtime ( I could have had the car back Thursday evening, but would have had to take it out for a run on Friday morning. As I was in no rush I let them keep it).
All seems to be working now and they even cleaned inside and out (unlike a dealer in Chelmsford who couldn't at the last service "due to Covid").
It was carried out under the 5-3-5 warranty, but would cost if your car is out of warranty.
I had a Jeep Renegade as a courtesy car, which was a totally different drive!
I would definitely use them again

Really useful if someone could get hold of the chassis numbers to which this update applies.
I've been in contact with LC Motors and they advise that my Quadrifoglio from February 2017 is eligible for the update.

They've not advised the VINs eligible, but on the basis of this BCM version information which MES gave me:

Hardware number: BCM952M_D01 - Ver: 03

Software number: 04441660387 - Ver: 0718

they advise my car is eligible. I'll be leaving the car with them in a week or two.

How much will it cost? I'm near Cardiff so not too far from LC motors

As I have a service plan, an extended warranty and LC Motors do all my servicing, I hope there will be no charge. If payment is involved, my guess is not less than 2 hours labour.

I'll report how things go when I get back from Italy. 3,500 miles clocked up so far.

I was able to simplify things by giving Gianni my MES data. Normally, they'd need to connect to a car to determine if the update is appropriate.

Do you have access to MES?

Monza Sport advised me that my 2017 Veloce was not eligable for the update. I'm also assuming that, if and when it does become available, that Alfa won't stump up the cost for this obvious issue which should be a recall in my view.

LC Motors today updated my early 2017 Quadrifoglio BCM software from 718 to 726. It took them around an hour and there was no charge.

According to Gianni the update improves HRW and Fuel Gauge operation as @Richard Blackshaw was told. No mention was made of changes to the 'intelligent' charging logic.

I've not spotted any difference yet, noting that I've never had any problems with the HRW not working. MES is reporting the Battery SoC as 70% and the HRW is working though only when the engine is running. I believe that was the case before the update.

The HRW not working with a fully charged battery is NOT a standard problem. If the BCM believes the battery State of Charge is over, I think, 60%, the HRW should work.
It rather depends on what your dealer means by 'fully charged', he might mean 100% or he might mean that battery isn't accepting any more charge even though its SoC is below 60%, in that case you need a new battery.
I guess you are out of warranty, if not, the dealer should be fixing it for you.

Hi
Had the same issue over my 4yrs ownership(18-Misano Blue Veloce) SS/HRW not working and many more electical issue my latest was rear break lights shorting and setting all sorts of warning lights off on the dash it turned out to be the brake light wiring which runs past the boot lid hinges had been worn away by the hing over the period owning the car.
Have resolved all issuse by ordering a BMW 235 Grand Coupe March arrival;);) The Alfa is to me the best looking motor on the roadbut unfortunaley i have feel out of love with it

Hi guys, just thought Id mention my own Giulia issues which mirrors what is happening here. I am 3 yrs into my ownership of my Giulia 2.2D 180 Super (Lux pack). I live in Bridgend S.Wales and have entrusted all my servicing to Gianni and his team at LC Motors of Newport. I bought my car at 13031 miles on the clock, extended the warranty which has just expired and also bought Alfas service pack which I have also just used the last one. So at 26'700 miles Ive just had the major service done which according to the service schedule includes cambelt and everything else. Low miles but completely serviced per se', I too have had issues with the HRW not working. The car is on its 3rd battery, 1st one gave up the ghost, the 2nd one failed under warranty but so far this 3rd one is going ok. Firstly, the HRW stopped working, typical come the winter time when we need to shift the ice and frost and condensation, followed by the alarm activating for no apparent reason, then the memory seats failed to resume their programmed position, and then key not in car warning when key clearly in car. Gianni sorted all of this out under warranty but I am still having the HRW issues. I basically have to top up the battery at least once a week during the winter months in order to get it working again and clear the frost. Clearly this cant be right but as many have mentioned, Alfa know its an issue but fail to address it properly. Anyway, onto my other fault ..... passenger side high beam shutter not working and Gianni said that its not repairable and therefore a new complete unit will cost around ÂŁ1657 fitted inc VAT. OUCH !! Yes, the original owner specced the car right up to the hilt with just about every option that was available on that model year including the super duper headlamps. Anyway, after discussion with Gianni, we have decided to contact AR UK customer service who have actually responded and we now have a case number. My argument is this .... normally (in case of a light not working) we would replace a bulb right? Or at at worst, trace a wiring fault or faulty plug socket. Not so with these units ...... so to cut a long story short, there are no bulbs you can replace and no user serviceable parts inside which should mean then the design of these headlamps should last the lifetime of the vehicle. So that's the route I am taking with Alfa at the moment. It's not a high mileage car, has been looked after to every last nut and bolt by Alfa dealer/service centre to the letter of the service schedule. No expense spared .... I don't yet know where this will go but I will report back in due course. ÂŁ1657 to get through the next MOT in 7weeks ..... what a headache !!

Hi,
Since having the software update a couple of weeks ago to get the HRW and Stop/Start working I have found that both reverted to not working.
I contacted D Salmon Cars and took the car in to them earlier this week. They reported that the battery was defective ( they quoted figures of 38% and 50%, but I am not sure what they represent).
I ended up getting a new battery, although was unable to get this under warranty as my car was 3.5 years old.
They installed a new Bosch battery, as the Alfa battery is on two weeks delivery from Italy and reset the IBS.
I am now waiting for the systems to update after a couple of runs, as they suggested.
Lets hope this works.

"and reset the IBS." Is this just dealer bollx or have the rest of us who have changed our own batteries just been lucky?

There is no IBS reset as such, other then the fact that if you remove power from the IBS (what you automatically do changing the battery), it will automatically perform a recalibration cycle to determine the battery parameters upon reconnecting

from service doc:
IBS Calibration
The IBS enters the calibration mode when it is connected to the battery for the first time or is reconnected after a
service operation.
During calibration, the SOC, SOH and SOF) are calculated less accurately and with broader tolerances for a
given period of time during which the IBS must recognize the battery type it is connected to, its voltage and its
efficiency status.
Whenever the IBS is removed or disconnected from the battery, the calibration process begins to relearn the
current battery conditions and parameters.
NOTE: This process can take up to 24-48 hours to complete .
During this time, the ESS system is disabled .

I last used my CTEK in late November and I've done 4,000 miles since then. In the period SoC has been between 69% and 72% each time I've checked it with MES. That's the original early 2017 battery. The HRW has worked whenever I've needed it.
