I have replaced my fusebox with a brand new one as my rear screen heater didn't work and had melted the fuse. Anyway, it's still not functioning so there must be a fault elsewhere - the elements of the screen appear OK, anywhere else I need to be looking i.e. the loom? The light comes on and your hear the relay click.

Sorry I can't help you there. I've got the same problem with mine and haven't got around to even looking at the problem yet. (Too busy driving for fun:) )

Just disconnected both sides of the screen, 12v present when switch is on, guess that means the screen is faulty as I can't see any breaks in the elements....

Did you replace the fusebox yourself? I have the same issue (light comes on, no-demisting). Alfarama say the fuse has melted the box, but it costs £104 for a new box and £70 for labour. Thought I might have a go myself at that price, but if you've done it and it still doesn't work, I might not bother trying!:(

When you turn on the heated rear screen, is the colour of the light green (like the air-con button), or orange?
Obviously on a P2 upwards.
The reason I ask is because mine comes on orange (fuse box blown) and I'm sure it use to be green.

Mine is orange - but I've never had the screen work so don't know if it was green...

Yes, you're right. The switch for my non-working heated rear screen lights yellow/orange and the air con switches light green, though I can't remember what colour the rear windscreen switch was when it worked.

Common problem. Mine was fixed relatively cheaply but didn't get full report of the problem. Think it was the loom and a new wire was simply installed. Had heard that the wire used to burn out on 164s. Also heard that overheating fuseboxes can be fixed by cleaning all the connections etc to fix any high resistances.

The light on my screen heater button glows orange when pushed - but the screen heater works just fine. I never questioned it because my Ford used to have an orange light in that button too

No luck with the new fuse. I'll check this week to see if the new fuse blew straight away. Anyone got any tips on where the problem might lie?

OK, hope this helps someone else out. After changing the fuse, relay, fusebox and rear screen, I had a local auto electrical specialist check this out, they found the fault and it was a duff and melted connector behind the glovebox (which they removed to access). They cut the plug out and hard-wired and all is now good - I expect something else will melt-down now though!!
