Hi all,

I noticed today that the near side headlight bulb is out in my 72 plate Veloce.

Alfa customer services seem to think the bulb is replaceable and therefore a wear and tear part not covered by warranty. However, I thought these light units were completely sealed now.

Question is: are they replaceable? If so, what with?

thanks in advance

They are replaceable.

Manual downloadable from: aftersales.fiat.com/eLum or should be accessible on the infotainment system in the car

35w xenons will also come with headlight cleaning as it is a legal requirement at that wattage.

Mine has the 25w units, they're perfectly good - but the headlight washers would have been useful during the winter.

Thanks all for your help. I’ll try changing them over a suggested… it’s interesting to me that the car has not come up with any errors to tell me there’s a bulb out, so maybe not a simple fix?
Also noticed in the owners manual AR tell you to take the car to a dealer to replace Xenons, I wonder why?

I read somewhere that it's because the voltage on a xenon system is higher than the normal 12v. Might be worth disconnecting the battery before doing it.

The thread below might be useful though, in terms of procedure. He's putting 35w bulbs in but the process will be the same of course.

Most Veloces have 25W Xenons (No headlight washer, has manual dial for level adjustment next to headlight on/off rotary dial to the right of the steering column). 35W upgrage is an option which comes with washers and auto levelling so no dial. When you start your ignition and headlamp moves up/down once, you have auto adjuster. From the pictures it looks like there is the headlamp washer cover below the headlight (not clear)?

The lamp is easily replaceable, turn the wheel full lock inwards so you can see the hatch behind the headlight. Pop the plastic lock rivets, swing the cover open, remove rubber push fit cover, remove connector, turn lamp counter clockwise and carefully pull it out without touching glass. Swap to otherside and test.

25W is D5S with internal ballast (expensive)
35W is D3S is external ballast (cheaper)

Have a look here, D3S for example

I had no idea the xenon were user replaceable until now but it looks like 25w will set you back £150 each 😨

Is it me or does the bulb failing in under a year not sound right

Not good in my opinion. In my 156GTA, one xenon lamp failed in 13 years and none in the 6 years of Quadrifoglio ownership. 35W in both cases.
I fear it may be a circuit failure rather than the lamp.

I experienced a similar problem with my car's headlight so I took my car to the mechanic. He checked the wiring for any loose connections but found no issues. After a thorough inspections, he told me that the LED lights for the daytime running lights were burnt out and needed to be replaced.

Now, as far what bulb to replace it with, I wasn't sure until I came across xenons4u.co.uk. They have a wide range of replacement bulbs for various car models. The bulbs are expensive but they come with guaranteed warranty.

I found the perfect replacement bulb for my Veloce on their website and decided to purchase it. The lights were easily replaceable, with a hatch behind the headlight allowing access for bulb replacement. It ended up being decision because the new bulb worked perfectly, and my headlight were back to their full brightness.

I think you should get in touch with their team if you're facing a similar issues with your car's headlights. Their assistance made the whole experience easy and hassle-free
Give it a try!.

How did you replace the DRL LED? I was under the impression these are not replaceable and if the DRL fails, a new headlamp assembly is required.
The main Xenon headlight bulbs, however, are easy to replace.
