I think the insurance on my 156 2.5 V6 is pretty reasonable at around £45 a month. Why is it then that for a GTV 3.0 V6, which isn't that much faster let's face it, the cheapest quote I can get is £1800 a year!!

I'm 23 now with 5 years no claims, and that's more than insurance cost for me when I was still a "testosterone-fuelled boy-racer" 17-year-old new driver. Even for a 2.0 Twinny GTV it's over £800 a year.

How can this be??

It's not just speed that is taken into account. Image, desirability, security, average cost of repairs etc are all taken into consideration when compiling an insurance quote.
I'm 26 and my V6 costs me £450 a year. A 3.0 GTV would cost me about £700, going by a quick gocompare.com check.
A 3.0 166 would cost me £500 - and that is slower than my 156.
