GTV update and where for Alfa parts in Ireland?

Hi all,

I finally had time, dry weather and insurance this evening and disconnected the MAF sensor ... the engine cruised on past the 4000-4500 problem, so thats an Astra 1.7D MAF sensor to be ordered then... (once I confirm the Bosch Part number and have tried cleaning the sensor first)

I also took a closer look at why I'm getting a crash/Bang from the back left and why she feels unsettled over bumps on right handers - I think I will need a new rear subframe as part of the fix, as the Bushes on the part that is connected to it are shot and it looks like there is metal on metal rubbing between the suspension arm and the subframe. I guess the rose tinted glasses made me miss that on the inspection - you wouldn't mind but I was looking specifically for it at the time!

Now Autolusso have good subframes on the web for 150 £ - anyone know if they ship that kind of kit to Ireland or where in Ireland I can get similar stuff?

I will also be needing a new thermostat (engine temp going up and down like a yo-yo.... a new rear light panel (purely cosmetic - one crack) and no doubt a multitude of other bits.

She's heading to Lee Garage tomorrow for a Health Check and I'll have the full list then - fingers crossed it isn't more than I was expecting - but hey, I bought it to get my hands dirty as a hobby so I don't mind.

The following may be useful :

Alfa Romeo Parts - AlfaWorkshop

Alfa Romeo Parts and Alfa Romeo Spares from EB Spares - Specialist Alfa Parts Dealers

SHOP4PARTS, Fiat & Alfa Parts Specialists.

I haven't used any of the above online parts suppliers but those 3 seem to be widely used by many other users on AO.

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Partsworld-uk <-- I've used them, good prices & fast delivery

Also it's always worth checking with the Irish Dealers as they can sometimes have some very good prices

Thanks all,

As expected most of the suspension at the rear needs to be done and a couple of other bits.

I'm inclined to go for the refurbed rear suspension parts from auto lusso if I can get them over economically enough - I like the idea of them nicely powder coated and reasonably indestructible powerflex bushes ( with the associated change in the suspension - potentially firmer and losing Some/allthe passive steer element), at least then the job is done and should hopefully take a very long time before it would need to be done again.

I had a good long chat with Paul  and will be following up on a number of directions he gave me for parts.

I would like to do a lot of it myself but time and impending Nct may well mean I will be contributing to the economy rather than getting bloodied knuckles fighting various suspension parts. :(

Later,

You wait for a bus, and then three come along at once...

Autolusso have come back with a quote on loads of bits that looks hard to beat including shipping.........

I have a lead locally on a potential donor car but I am travelling to Dublin today so won't be able to check it out until next week.

Eau Rouge has a subframe ( and 5 916's !!!! I thought I was getting bad ;) ) .... And I am in Dublin today with a Megane estate........ *mind you, even taking into account how much my wife likes Alfa's, I'm not sure she would appreciate sharing the trip back to cork tomorrow with a subframe.

My head hurts  *and that's on top of starting to look at tyres ..... That whole area seems to be like anchoring on a boating forum ( not agreeing with how someone anchors is akin to saying their wife/daughter/boat/etc. is ugly! )

Eau Rouge, I cannot PM yet as i am too new.

My wife is up and down to Dublin so I might take you up on some bits depending on how the local donor car and Autolusso shape up.

If you have some pics of the the subframe that would be great, I will be asking Autolusso for photos of theirs as well. The bush on the spring pan arms have both failed and have "eaten" into the subframe so I'm going to get that replaced along with the arms etc.

Cheerio,

NF
