I've had both these cars and it's all down to personal taste i suppose. Found the 20v Fiat expensive to maintain.
Be very careful with turbo timer, boost thingy, dump thingy... does this mean well maintained(careful owner)or it's been trashed????

My brother is a fiat coupe man, so I asked his advice.

He reckons the price sounds about right for the car described.

Timing belts need doing every 35k, and auxiliary belts need to be done at the same time. It's about £400-450 from a good indie specialist, twice that from a fiat dealer.

If the bodywork needs a lot doing, the bonnet is the thing to watch for. If it needs replacing they go for £5-600 second hand. A lot of coupes that age are being broken up at the moment as they're worth more as parts.

My bro reckons the coupe turbo is a bit faster than a V6 GTV, they don't handle quite so well. The boot and interior space are a bit roomier. As for looks, it's a matter of taste.

I reckon the coupe is a nice car, but I'd rather have a GTV.

Fccuk.org/forum is the forum my brother uses. If he registers, there's a comprehensive buyer's guide and they're all pretty helpful and friendly.

They both share the same DNA when it comes to the engine, I'm on the look out for a 20V fiat coupe turbo for fun use, but would rather have my Gtv when it comes to class and everyday use.

Easy for you maybe, but not for me :) I would like to think paying someone who knows what there doing will be quicker and more economical than modifying an na Alfa lump plus the boost must be so much more enjoyable.

Luckily I am having both of them now, both 97, both red, TS and 20VT. They carry the same DNA of petrolhead fun, however, TS is better on twisted road and 20VT is a monster on straight. There should be no different on maintaining them, just like other Italian cars, keep parts and do it as scheduled. 20VT is comparatively much practical as daily use, carry 4 adults comfortably with roomer boot. TS is about 20% more fuel economy for my case. For the look, imo, front - GTV, back-20VT, side and interior - both.

It's all plug and play, the fiat engine is pretty much a straight swap with the TS engine. Wiring was easy too all of 6 wires to splice and it still uses the Alfa speedo and rev counter.

I would go with the Coupe, as I think it is a better all round package.

Plus it is faster and better on fuel if you compare the V6 and 20VT

Other running costs like tyres and maintenance are about the same.

Think I will be getting my hands on a fiat coupe in the next few months. I miss the feeling of a turbo charged car and they look fantastic. Need to do some research to see if it's worth selling the v6 gtv for one though :(

I don't think you would regret it.

I went the other way, from a 20VT to a V6 GTV and I wished I hadn't...

The Coupe also has simpler more reliable rear suspension, and doesn't suffer from exploding differentials like the GTV often does.

The coupe has simpler, more relaible rear suspension, and the differentials are also a lot stronger.

They also have a viscodrive system which eliminates torque steer. The GTV does torque steer a bit.

I have 2 Coupes (A 16VT and a 20VT) and 2 V6 GTV's. I would have another Coupe, but I wouldn't have another GTV.
Did you pay much for your coupes if you don't mind me asking? I'd like to sell my GTV V6 and pay for a coupe with what I get from that ideally. Reckon that is possible? I bought my V6 for 2800 and it's only on 70k. I probably paid over the odds for it but the service history was immaculate (half intervals) and it had been garaged for it's whole life.

I reckon you would get a good coupe for £2000-£2500

I paid a bit less for mine, but it needed the cambelt doing.
