Two eventful days after getting my 2001 3.0 I go out this morning to take my first drive to work......... and she wont start. The engine turns over fine but doesnt fire. The key code light remains on the whole time that I crank the engine. She had run fine yesterday afternoon when I parked her up. Initially I had thought it was the crank sensor but now seeing the key code light on makes me think this is an immobiliser issue. Anyone able to give me any more info please? How do I disable the immobiliser? Could this be some other issue? Any suggestions?

TIA

Recent threads on this - do a search. Its almost certainly the immobiliser aeriel which is the black ring around the ignition barrel either giving up or the wire to it chafing against the steering column. Hence it might fix itself by just lowering and raising the steering column - it worked for me! Also just turn the ignition on & off a few times until the light goes out. Mine always starts on the 2nd or 3rd turn. It will be confirmed by a diagnostics check - get the code then do a search here. The aerial costs £60 - I'm going to check the wiring when I get the chance. Lots of info in previous threads.

Hi. I bought my first Spider this weekend and safely parked it in the garage. When I went to move it exactly the same problem. I have no idea why but I have found that if I unlock the door with the key, and go to start the car the code disappears once the car is running I plip the alarm and that gets rid of that. I presume its because the car does not like being opened by the remote key fob. I have a Meta alarm system on mine, these are the small round grey key fobs. See if that works.

Try disconnecting the battery for 30 mins or so.

This happened to me last week, tried the battery disconnect, cleaned all the relays, messed with the immobiliser antenna, tried cleaning the engine bay earths;
Turned out all i needed to do was jiggle the wires and connector blocks behind the panel in the passenger footwell.......:cool:
Now bearing in mind mine is a twinny, with my previous V6 if i went over a bump my injector light would come on and give me erratic response, the cure, jiggle the wires behind the panel in the passenger footwell

(the panel is the carpeted one)

worked a treat on both faults, mind the airbag cable though..

Guys, many thanks for all your help. I tried everything suggested here and in the other threads I found. Eventually found that passing my spare key over the steering shroud just above my knee got the immobiliser off.

I can use the main key in the ignition and the valet key to disable the immobiliser. I am wondering whether Timpsons can cut me a key but then code the key using a transponder from a different key.
