The GTA used to be soooooo hot under the bonnet. Fan would come on almost the second I stopped in traffic and if you turned it off and opened the bonnet you could hardly get near it for the heat radiating off it. Since I installed the 3.0 cf2 manafolds it's like a different animal. Temp is more controlled in all situations. Takes longer for fans to kick in in traffic. I don't get a mild tan everytime I open the bonnet. All this lower heat must be doing wonders for Performance due to less heat soak and improve engine life as everything outside of the engine isn't so styfullingly hot.

Nice work dan. Another bonus to your mod:thumbs:

Did you install them yourself Joss?

I've always been tempted by this but with all these horror stories of ill fitting EQ length pipes and nasty rattling at certain RPM's due to ressonace - I got a bit put off it all to be honest.

I'll pm you and discuss as it is quite long winded:)

Mine runs really hot in traffic. However, i find if i have the air con on, even at warm temperature (ice switch on) then it stays cool. I assume this is due to the extra fan running continously.
Yeah mine used to be hot all the time in traffic. 90+ But now it sits down at 85+

God stuff mate. My 3 litre CF2 coolant temperature always used to run on the warm side, but you wouldn't know it from lifting the bonnet. On the other hand the GTA coolant used to always sit on 90 regardless, but when lifting the bonnet you couldn't touch anything under there, not even the inlet manifold thats constantly being fed with ~20 degrees air.

I drove my Gta for the first time in ages the other day and when I got out I was amazed at how hot it was outside as I thought it was a really cold day. I moved about two foot away from the car and realised it was the car that was producing all that heat. It really was quite amazing.

Mine gets roasting hot, when i get out you can feel the heat as soon as the door is open. I parked up next to a mate in McDonalds car park, drivers window to drivers window, he noticed the heat straight away as soon as i pulled up and other people have mentioned it before aswell. You can't touch anything under the bonnet if the car's been running either as it does get really hot, ive been caught out a couple of times now and got burnt by it

1. Why are you parking in maccy d's car park :p
2. Better get those pipes done. I don't burn myself half as much as I did on the engine

Thank god for this thread, i've been paranoid about the heat coming from mine since i got it. I have a set of CF3 manifolds sitting about, has anyone else noticed the reduction in temp under the bonnet after fitting them. I've been reluctant because of the stories regarding the resonance.

Cheers, Carty.

The main drawback is the car will be hugely noisier. If you do a lot of motorway work really think twice about it. Just been for a drive in mine and you can just tell every other car and pedestrian is well aware of you booming along the street!

The resonance is more a case of a few extra rattles etc. Nothing major to be honest. The equal pipes are pretty good although for me personally had an issue when the engine mounts were close to failure and they snapped. New engine mounts then meant the exhaust wouldn't fit back on so I have brand new equal pipes which a few awkward bends and dings where they were adjusted.

Yes it is loud but mine seems ok. I do some motorway miles on the way to work and it's not to bad on mine. Nothing the radio can't drown out if i choose

Replace exhaust manifolds with GTV 3.0 ones and then also replace the front pipes (your originals won't fit 3.0 GTV manifolds). It's a big job though, you want to do it at the same time as the cambelt and the clutch by taking the engine out.

The reason the engines run hot is because the cats hold so much heat. Without these two heat sources in the engine bay you can remap the engine to run less rich and get even more power. Although some gta's seem to adapt really well to the mod without a remap and others don't.

My GTA seems to run very hot too.

Could someone explain this mod for me please as it seems like a definate for the 'to do' list!

Ben
Talk to Loz about it when you are in. And yes I hear all ;)

What pud says is exactly that. The Precats produce an stupid amount of heat. How any manuafacturer can consider it an acceptable amount of heat to place right next to the engine is beyond me as the heat soak is utterly stupid. Still got to be green I guess. :) I think my GTA has taken to the mod quite well as the general opinion of those who have driven it (Loz,Glen, myself) is that it is very very fast now. :)

I'm running a car with the above described mod now and even with a map from Gus. Although did not measure the temperature before and after can't tell it is cooler now. And I have insulated the manifolds as well as the pipes with Thermotec.

On the other I did change the radiator and the coolant while still running on the OEM exhaust setup the car got significantly cooler. During movement it sits well below 90 °C. And takes some time till the ventilators kicks in the traffic or while standing.
