To seperate the lens, do you have to put it in the oven to soften the sealant, or does it just pull apart?

None of the guides seem to mention this bit.

Thought I'd have a go at doing it this Sunday.

usually a stanley knife & a couple of flat headed screw drivers do the trick.

some of the lenses seperate easily, others are PITA.

if you find its the latter then try heating them

Instead of screw drivers, saw up some small wide wooden wedges. About 6 should do it. They will help better than screwdrivers and you don't risk cracking your lense.

Ifound that running a solvent (I used turpentine substitute) around the joint & leaving it for ten minutes or so softened the sealant, making it much easier to remove the glass, thus reducing the risk of breaking the glass at the expense of a little bit of gooey mess.

Just me being pedantic, but Glass is actually acrylic now ... ;)

Wouldn't the solvent/turpentine damage the clear lense??

heatgun/hairdryer

fine wet n dry paper

black plastic/acrylic spray

patience

20 cigarettes(optional)

4 cans of your fave lager
