Hi folks, I know there are dozens of posts about dash rattles on here but none seem to fit the bill. My GT has developed a buzz from the dash at around 1800-2000 rpm particularly under acceleration or load. It sounded like the instrument binnacle but taking the clocks out and driving the car makes no difference. Obviously there are a few other rattles and squeaks but this one is particularly irritating.
It's really difficult to locate the exact position of the source of the noise but it seems to be coming from the dash in the centre or slightly to the offside. After months of it driving me nuts I WILL sort it, no matter how long it takes or how tedious it gets!!
If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate your input, otherwise I'll post the solution when I get it fixed. Don't hold your breaths, it may take months!

I get an intermittent buzz from the centre dash. I read on the 159 forum (I think) that the plastic dash can vibrate against the larger part of the dash (ie. plastic on plastic) ....solution was to wedge something near to the air vents to make a tighter fit and stop the rattle. Hope that makes sense! ...and maybe worth a go?

I thought originally it was the clocks as it sounds like the clear plastic vibrating against the casing but it's still the same when the instruments are removed.
After removing everything that can be taken off apart from the actual dash itself the rattle is still there so I guess the dash will have to come out. I've tried pressing on the dash, inside the dash and tugging and pressing all the demister vents but it makes no difference so I'll look forward to a long day trying to contort myself in unnatural positions to reach all the fasteners. Bummer!!!!

The reason you get dash buzz's is due to vibrations from the engine going through to the chassis and effectively wobbling the whole car and certain rpm's.

Usually top mount or bottom mounts that cause the most vibration.

You can obviously solve this by finding where the vibration is coming from and packing whatever it rubs from but ultimately its actually vibrations from the engine.

Thank you. I understand that it is related with the engine vib., but the problem, that I tried all kinds of stuff. I just can not find what produces this sound (it comes about 2000 and stops 3000 rpm). It is like glass/metal sound (like loose glass windows). I thought it was the plastic covering the dials (which is somewhat loose), but it was not it. I looked in the fuse box, inspected steering, those plastic boxes under window (removed), vents...nothing

I had a similar problem a few years back, turned out the car had previously had a smashed windscreen and bits of glass had got into the air vents....I just lived with it until i sold it
