Hey Guys,

I'm running a set of the GT 17" alloys on my GTV. I'm pretty sure they are 7.0x17 in size and I've got 215x45x17 tyres on them. I'd like to go wider on the tyre size - 225x45x17 but most online tyre calculators seem to be saying that the maximum width tyre for a 7 inch rim is 215.

My question is; are any of you GT drivers running wider rubber on your 17" rims (wider than 215)? What have your experiences been?

For reference these are the type of wheel I'm referring to:

Many thanks,

D.

you can squeeze 225's on there but make sure you have room and it wont foul the suspension.
I know some guys have put 225's on 7 inch rims with no problems.
But personaly i would stick with 215's 225's tramline too much.
You especially notice it on the motorway. you get dragged in to the ruts that the lorrys leave.

215/45 is not the maximum for a 7" wide wheel its more the recommended size

215/45 will fit 7-8" rims
225/45 will fit 7-8.5" rims

but something like 215/50 will fit 6-7.5" rims so its not just the width thats important but the aspect ratio too.

I think 225/45 are a bit more comfortable than 215/45 but also depends on the manufacturer. Are you using spacers on those wheels to get them to clear the Brembo calipers?

Thanks for the replies guys, it's good to know that the 225's will fit a 7" rim. I am running 10mm spacers to get clearance (and fill the arches), and know that GTV's can run 225's on the 17" teledials, however the teledials are 7.5" rims, hence the question.
Decisions, decisions....
