It says Made in Germany on the tin, however the circuit board is full of bits made in the Far East, now, guess which bit has failed?

No point having 'quality German Engineering' if it is governed by crappy Eastern electronics

Furthermore, I assume these bits are imported because they are cheaper, so why the hell does a new circuit board cost £250

Needless to say a new machine has been ordered making a mockery of all the green Eco stickers, if you want to be green, make a machine that effing works!

How old is it?

Just buy a new one.

(Electronic products from the likes of Apple is made in the far east.
Funny how they manage to "hide" this and people wax lyrical about the 'quality".... ;))

To be fair, Apple products very rarely fail, and are generally built to a very high standard. China is capable of producing quality products, its just most people buying from them just want cheapness

We have the basic non-electronic digi' display down to earth model to which you refer? Classixx 6 1200 Express iirc. No problems. My daughter has the super version with it's LCD screen and bells an whistles, which has gone up the spout and no longer works!! :(:

Moral of the story? Stay simple and basic so long as it does the washing, rinsing and spin drying game over. Same applies to her jalopy really, simple and basic, but a doddle to service DIY fashion? ;) :):

Zanussi I replaced 2 years ago lasted >8 years.
Door seal went. It was still running fine but
cheaper to just bin it and get a new one.

Replaced with an Indesit of a similar design.
No issues after 2 years.

As ZF says, it was a switch 'n' lights model.
No fancy numeric display.

Who says the Italians don't know how to do electricals?!

would a door seal not have been cheaper

Not really, it was ~100 Euros to get a new door seal fitted
and I was refurb'ing the kitchen at the time.

So bought a new one for ~200 Euros and they took the old one away for free.

;)

New one is much faster, quieter, cheaper to run. So +100 Euros for that isn't
a bad deal.

Just bought a relatively basic Hoover model three days ago. It's quite a lot noisier than the Hotpoint it replaced and has less features but at least it...

Doesn't leak
Doesn't have a tumble drier that doesn't work
Doesn't jump about all over the room

slightly off topic, but it made me chuckle......

back in the days working on one of her majestys finest aircraft carriers, i had the pleasure of trying to figure out why the engineers newly acquired washing machine wasn't working. when i got there i was treated to a demonstration of the machine trying to throw itself around the workshop! so i opened up the top of the machine to have a butchers, and ask "where's the counterweight gone??"

"what's that then?"

"big lump of concrete bolted inside to stop the washing machine throwing itself around"

*penny drops, stoker looks worried* "ah, don't you mean the shipping weight thing??"

"well, whatever you call it, where is it?"

"well, it was really heavy to carry on board, so we had a look inside, and found this concrete thing, figured it was pointless and heavy, so we ditched it over the side"

cue me, pi**ing myself laughing, and telling the poor idiot to go and explain to the chief stoker why they needed another new washing machine.

her majs finest at their best

Faster means the bearings, brushes etc wear out quicker. 1200 rpm spin is more than enough..

Maybe, but it does seem to get my towels drier than
the old one. And it's narrower so fits better. ;)

(It says on 1200rpm most of the time. :))

Our old washing machine stopped spinning.....the first time the circuit board was replaced, £60. After the second failure I decided to get a new machine...nice and simple, a BEKO. Does all we need it too:)

A few years ago our trusty microwave needed replacing because the inside was starting to show signs of corrosion. It was a great little thing, with simple dials, a simple timer, and one simple 'ding' when it had done it's job. I wanted an equally simple replacement. Admittedly, the new one I didn't pay for as I got it from a voucher commission scheme at work, but the most basic I could choose is 'too' fiddly!!

Bloody touch buttons, silly, difficult to read displays!! It beeps each time you press a button:confused: I don't understand that....I know I've pressed the button because the display changes.....
.....and if you don't open the door once it has finished it's job, it reminds you with a second 'ding', and a third and a fourth and so on:mad:

I'm not some half witt American.....I don't need a constant reminder that a task I set the microwave to complete two minutes ago has been completed......I've not 'forgotten', I'm just busy doing something else:rant:

Stupid bloody thing:mad:

Zanussi/Indesit/Hotpoint = all the same company

If you want quality, it costs, but I would say that Miele produce very good stuff.

fox hat has a point  miele is about the best i have come across yet. the fact that the trade use them is a testament to how good they are :) bloomin expensive though  but very very easy to fix DIY style if you get the workshop manuals for them ;)

Had our old Ariston washing machine for 27years. Indesit dishwasher was still going strong after twenty years. The dishwasher was left at our previous home, but we have inherited a SMEG which was left installed at our new home, complemented by the Bosch basic which we bought new.:):
