In connection with my earlier post, a quick note to say that another 'Alfa Specialist' has proven to be unhelpful and annoying.

Apparently spending £2500.00 with them doesn’t even get you a polite phone call (Pasquale gets an honourable mention here).

As soon as i mentioned the alarm on my car is not acting the same way as it was when it went in, i get a barrage of excuses, rudeness and of course complete denial of any knowledge of the problem.

Maybe it has nothing to do with Gonnella bothers, but it doesn’t stop people from being courteous. I also feel that I wouldn’t get the same treatment if i was standing there, (People magically act bigger than they are when they are on the end of a phone)

Im not normally one to bad mouth, unless asked for my opinion, but im sick and tired of garages being nice to you until money changes hands, especially when it's them that slams the phone down.

Re: Gonnella Brothers Catford = C**TS!!!!

It's the luck of the draw with garages, im in the majority where my limited knowledge of how a car actually works (aka Jeremy Clarkson syndrome) puts me in the position of relying on garages being honest
p
Money aside, I would pay more for a helpful service and decent aftercare, that’s what p****es me off the most. Oh well, I need to go back to them after 700 miles for them to check on their parts etc.

Ill call it Judgement Day........

Re: Gonnella Brothers Catford = C**TS!!!!

Were fine with me when i took my 147 in for its 36000 service. No quibble when they changed the oil and they shouldn't have due to the variator being replaced a few weeks earlier.

Called me about a few minor points and were generally polite and helpful.

Does the alarm actually work? is it just the it sounds funny with this 'popping' noise?

Oops. They have quoted me £265+VAT for changing my cambelt, which I thought was pretty damn good value. But I'm a bit hesitant about using them after your post here.

Quite apart from their rudeness.........I suppose the real question is whether the work they did for 2,500 was up to scratch ? If it was, then at least your bella is in good shape, which is the main thing.

It's no excuse for rudeness.........but I'd rather a servicing agent was rude to me than incompetent/dishonest about the work carried out.

Cheers.

By all means try them out, one thing im not doing is rubbishing their work. They fixed the car and it runs just like it did new, but what annoys me was the lack of service, non existent aftercare once they got my money and rudeness. A customer should get the same treatment if he pays £50 or £2500. Good luck mate

I'm sorry to hear about your problems. You're right, there is no need for rudeness. However, I guess even the best people can be a bit kurt when under pressure. Perhaps some more of their customers could post so we could get an idea as to whether or not this was a one off or something more common?

Re: Gonnella Brothers Catford = C**TS!!!!

It's the garage I use for my GTV as it's only a few miles away and I saw it recommended in a Classic Car magazine that featured GTV's and Spiders.

My views concur with the majority of the above. The work carried out seems to be of good quality (from a person only knowing as much as if the car looks and sounds pretty). I, too, was considering travelling miles away to let somebody else have a go at my car because of the lack of customer skills.

Alfa dealers put me off purchasing another and I feel it's important to feel you as well as your care is being looked after. You get what you pay for in terms of repairs but that little extra doesn't get you many manners. As someone says though, you'd take a rude mechanic that does the job right than a polite one that you end up visiting more often than you should.

Re: Gonnella Brothers Catford = C**TS!!!!

I've used Gonnella Bros a couple of times to get my 164 serviced (including a cam belt change) and I have to say that on the whole, their work has been very good. However, as has been previously stated, their comms are poor - I've had to chase them to find out if the car is ready. Ironically, they don't seem very enthusiastic/passionate about the cars - or maybe it was just mine!

I chose to go to Rusper Alfa, near Gatwick, to have new suspension/inlet runners fitted and although the car was there for a long time, I got a much better "vibe" from them - much more enthusiasm. I'll probably take my car there for it's service next month.

Does anyone else think it's a bit ironic to be complaining about rudeness when the title of the post is "Gonnella Brothers Catford = C**TS!!!!"

you reckon?

Fair Point. Well made.

The topic title I guess is a little on the harsh side. It is hard to take your pride and joy to a place that you pay through the nose for and would be nice to not have any nervyness over what is exactly happening.

I guess the conclusion seems to be that you don't get the total package if you buy an Alfa!

Try Kinghams in Croydon if you're not happy - just changed my code receiver box, recoded two keys and ordered my key-code card for me. Charged a tad over £450 which seems to be reasonable as keys seem to (according to posts on here) cost over £100 to re-code each!

PS Think you're wrong Mike - he meant 'chats'

Kinghams were very thorough, polite and knowledgable also seemed very enthusiastic about Alfa's. I feel that everypart of my car has been checked and ive never come away from a service before feeling the difference in the way the car drives and sounds she is like new.

A word of warning though ensure you ask for full cost inc labour and vat. My recent 4th year service, mot , cambelt change and rear bushes change came to £1800 !!!! £850 for the cambelt change alone.

I do feel they have done an excellent job however do your homework (as i will in future) ask for full costs and shop around - great service doesnt have to cost this much.

Re: Gonnella Brothers Catford = C**TS!!!!

I am sorry to hear of your bad experience. When i previously owned a 164 1996 - Cloverleaf i always got my car serviced for a number of years by Alfa-Link now known as AlfaRama at Parr Road off Honeypot Lane and i was always dealt with a very nice Chap named Peter Kipling who always offered me coffee and tea and his after care service was exceptional. If there were any delays with regard to servicing he would call me back straight away. The team run by AlfaRama are exceptional in there work. So they try them out and trust me you will not be dissapointed. There Number is 0208-951-4100

Re: Gonnella Brothers Catford = C**TS!!!!

i hate reading things like this:(
i honestly think garages make judgement on you the minute you drive your car in, whether its dealers or independents if they think they can get a little bit more cash out of you they will. and then like you say, once the cash has changed hands they have no interest:rolleyes:

i have learnt from past experience with other makes of car (mainly subaru), and i now try and get as much information on a particular garage as i can, then i decide which one i will be using:)

hopefully i wont have to be dealing with any garages for a long time:D
and any jobs i can do myself i will, and i know the work will be done with great care and passion. and i will only charge myself a fraction of a dealers:D

you have my sympathies jamcam23

I can understand that nobody wants to be talked down to or be given a rude attitude - but what is better a polite service that then go on to f#@k your car up - or someone that knows what they are doing and offers a service at a competitive rate...

Seems that Gonella brothers are the latter - so at leat they are the better half way there...

Re: Gonnella Brothers Catford = C**TS!!!!

Not sure if anyone is going to read this as the thread is so old now, but i thought i'd add a couple of things seeing as a few people have wrote on the thread since.

Firstly, the use of C***TS was way too harsh from me, their not at all, the work is very good, and i was writing the original comment moments after dealing with them so emotions were fresh!

Secondly i did actually use them again, and still their work holds up, although their telephone manners still need work!

And lastly, from exeperience, whoever said use a garage for their skills rather than politeness is right, at the end of the day it's the work that counts, even if their kicking you in the clackers as they do it....:)
