Well guys I've done it now. Took my beloved 1.8 16V for a paddle through some flood water and drowned it. This happened two weeks ago just before we set off on our hols too. So, just got back and way low compression on the cylinder I sooked all the water out of. I'm thinking bent conrod, cracked piston or lifted head, either way with over 100k on the ticker I'm probably just as well looking for a decent low mileage engine rather than faf with this one for months.
I''m considering fitting a 2.0l unit. Going by the parts CD the heads are the same so all that stuff should fit, I read somewhere the ECU will run both engines too. The flywheels are different though as are the clutches and the input shafts to the gearboxes. The front engine mount is also different. So -

1. Anyone done this already?
2. Anyone know if a 1.8 flywheel will fit the 2.0l crank?
3. Any other problems I haven't thought of?

4. Anyone know of a good engine for sale.

Ah the joys of motoring, why didn't I didn't just go the long way home that day, kicking myself. The carpet and all the sound proofing is currently out drying off as well - it filled up with water when it was sitting in the puddle :(

The maps in the ECU will be different between the two engines. Don't have a clue about your other questions. Have you tried the parts cd and workshop manual. If they are of no help I might have another tool heading my way :D

Think I've read somewhere when we were discussing squadra chips that the ecu's have maps for both the 16v engines on them. I'm not sure though. I also have a load of 2.0 parts inc a gearbox and flywheel. Its definately worth going for the 2.0 engine, as its much more driveable.

Its a right **** that happened BTW. :(

I remmber that the driveshafts are different on the two engines, the size of the brake disc's are also different. The cost of a running 2.0 engine might make you weep too.
