Hello Guys,

I have problem with my Giulietta 2.0 JTDM - 175HP TCT. Model year 2015.

The check engine light popped up. I connected on the MES and I got an error "Coolant temperature sensor" The fault is present now.
Okay, I leave it that way and went to buy new coolant sensor. Replaced the sensor cleaned error and everything was fine couple of days.
Then engine light came back on. The same error popped up. I tried to clear once more but again after exactly two days error came back.

When error pops up also start-stop system stops working, I got that error on the dashboard only, and DNA switch stuck. But if I clear the error everything is working normally except start-stop system. It never works when it's connected. So I am wondering maybe error can be related to the start-stop system? Car runs and drives normally.

Has anyone had a similar issue?

Thank you

The stop/start system is temperamental at best. If the battery is at all past it's best, it won't work so don't worry about that.
Start/Stop & DNA will be disabled when there's an engine problem.
So I'd think that the problem does lie with the sensor but as you've replaced it it's hard to say. Is there more than 1 sensor maybe?

Well I changed sensor to be precise three times and every time the same thing happened.

Also I forgot to mention outside temperature sendor (one on the wing mirror) does not work correctly it shows temperature of 65 celsius.

So that one needs to be replaced too.

Can that be a main problem maybe?

Also I did not checked the temperature of coolant sensor. Ill check then will let u know.

Thank you.

Attached is the picture of an error.
As you can see it's currently present.

I hope I have changed the right sensor. The golden one on the thermostat on the intake side of the engine?

I think the door mirror sensor is irrelevant to this issue. Mine is broken too. It does effect the climate control operation but no fault codes.

Your mes scan is a little blurry but I think the voltage is less than 14v if I've read it correctly. All your faults could be spurious and caused by a weak battery.

Voltage is 13.46V. U think 0.5V can affect on the car system?

The electrics on these cars can be very temperamental but the alternator should provide enough charge once the engine is running. The voltage realised depends on a few things, the engine in the screenshot is only doing 1091rpm we don't know if the headlights are on, heated rear window on etc. If you rev the engine does the voltage go over 14volts, it might also be worth getting the battery tested to see if it needs changing. The engine temperature is being reported as 1.16C it could be something like a corroded contact on the sensor connection especially if you've changed it 3 times?

Hi, I have exactly the same things with my Giulietta 2.0 JTDM - 175HP TCT. Model year 2016. Temp sensor just gone, is reading in 60s, day later warning lights on morning startup. Did you changing the battery resolve the warning light issues? If not, did you find out what the problem was and how did you fix it?
Thanks

I have the same problem on my Guilietta qv with the temp sensor, I replaced the sensor and the same thing is happening every now and then, the check engine light comes on and it is the P0166 error temp sensor the temperature gauge also stops working, then I reset it and it works fine for a while, sometimes 1 day some times a month I'm trying to find out if it is maybe the heater cause we a using the car in winter atm with the heater running most of the time, the battery voltage is fine and the car starts fine, if anyone has a solution or maybe can help with this it will be deeply appreciated.

Hello,

I have the same issue, Giulietta 2.0 JTDM (from 2015) water temperature sensor (start-stop unavailable, DNA stuck in N), also, external temp sensor showing 50+ C.
The first thing I tried is to change the battery, cleared faults, but in 2 days it came back.

In my case, it always comes up when starting the car, never when the car was already started.

Haven't tried changing the sensor yet, but that will be the next step, although I'm skeptical that it will fix anything judging from the previous comments ...

Did any of you who had the same issue got it fixed? If yes, how?

Thanks

I'd check the connector and connections to the sender for bad connection(s) / oxidation, and/or change the temperature sensor.
I don't think changing the battery will do any good, if the only fault you have is the coolant temp sender

the other errors are simply the result of temp sender malfunction. Temp error throws up engine fault, which in turn disables DNA switch etc

I had a Giulietta and it was the very best car I've ever had, the external temperature sensor is a common fault, that's the pip on the underside of the drivers side mirror. I never had an engine temperature sensor issue and my car was a 2010 model. Do you have MES to see what's going on? Off of the top of my head with a JTDM you might be in the EGR fault mode, but that should throw up a yellow engine light on the dashboard?

Update:

Took the car to a local Alfa specialist. After changing the sensor in question, cleaning the connections to make sure that there is no issue (also, changed the external temp sensor) -> the problem seems to be solved, got my car back a week ago, driving it every day (starting at 6AM when it is still in the negatives Celsius-wise), and since then ... no issues (knock on wood ...).

Hope this helps others who have the same problem
