With the 105 you have to take the motor out for it to be easy. Not sure about your car. Also best to get Corteco seals. They are graded in different colours and iirc brown is better than the more common orange one. I have an alfetta manual in pdf if you're interested.

Gearbox, clutch and flywheel are at rear. Can't remember what rear of engine looks like but surely only need to disconnect prop shaft at engine, dig out seal and drive in new one (tilt engine back). Check the manual.

Would you mind emailing that manual also to me please?
Bought mine less than month ago, and already left me next to road upon fetching it...

I've done it with the engine in place but it's a but of a schlep. You have to remove the prop which means releasing the rear subframe, disconnecting the clutch slave, slack the engine mount bolts, remove the front "bell housing", remove the starter and flywheel (Mark it's position and refit in the same position, they may be balanced but anything to reduce vibrations ) then remove the cover over the top of the seal. Prise it out the old seal and drive the new one in. I can't remember if oil ran out or not but best to take precautions. Almost a whole day job!:(

Ysman, I'll have to send you the manual tomorrow morning. Lectured at another university today and had no time or internet to send.
Much obliged sir.
Can't wait to get my car back. Been standing at workshop since I got it due to ignition/electrical fault. Luckily Frost donated me an old one, of which I had key cut today, but will take it to workshop to see if it works.

Only then can I start driving it and seeiing what to attend to....
Lance, where did you get those clear indicator lenses? Both mine is broken...probably the previous owner's wife in a moment of revenge....

So I replaced the seal on the weekend and then drained the oil in the sump.

The oil was as thin as water.I found petrol mixed with the oil.could this be the cause of the seal going? The petrol caused the sump level to rise over the limit that it should be.

my car had the problem after standing for a while it would misfire and replacing plug no.1 it would be normal again.

Would it be correct to assume that the carb is leaking?resulting in petrol ending up in the sump?
