A CF prop shaft also improves acceleration response, as there is basically no distortion of the prop shaft when torque is applied. With steel prop shafts, the shaft distorts longitudinally before the power actually gets to the wheels. This is eliminated using CF, improving acceleration response by a fraction of a second.Carbon-Fibre Propeller Shaft
The carbon fiber propeller shaft, used in all versions, is supplied by Hitachi Automotive Systems.
It is around 40% lighter than a conventional steel prop shaft, so are saved around 5 kg.
The impact force is reduced by about 50% at maximum due to collapsible behaviour in frontal impact vehicle collision, so contributing to a better safety of the vehicle.
There is not need for central bearing support structure => less noise, friction, ...

measured response : Mazda RX8 isnt a 4 door family sedanAnal car fact: the Mazda RX8 had a carbon fibre propshaft as well.
8 percent British and some 17 percent US content. Equal German and Italian content, almost.Interesting.
Does anyone know who makes the excellent dampers ?
anyone with any real experience with Alfa Romeo, if that is who you are alluding to with your insulting and disparaging remarks, know very full well that it would usually be the German supplied parts that would often fail, and the irony being that the infotainment units in German cars from which they draw their claims, are actually supplied by Magneti MarelliHow amusing that it's a majority German car by component parts.
That's going to have some of the swivel eyed loons of this parish in all kinds of angst![]()
