Hi guys,

Got a leaking front crank seal on my 2005 156 2.0 JTS.

In order to replace it I got to get the timing pulley off. It’s mounted with a M16 left threaded bolt at the end of the crank axle, (timingbelt side) - but I can’t get the f.... bolt off....!!!

Made a special tool to fix the pulley, keeping pulley and crank from turning.

Been using my (300Nm) air wrench tool – but the bolt just won’t give.

I have read some were that the bolt can be tightened with up to 500Nm. (?)

Are there any special tricks or any other method to get the crank bolt off…?

I have access to a much more powerful air wrench (950Nm).

Is an air wrench, the way to go’ - or is there any another way…??

Thanx!.

If it's just the pully you need to get off it's not held on by the big centre bolt, just the 4/5 spline/torx bolts...well, it was on my 1.8TS anyway.

All the best

If you are talking about the balance belt pulley its held on with two ribe bolts ( and rust normally ) at least on the ts maybe the JTS is different though

Well, like you say, they're bloody tight. Even with your fashioned tool and along enough bar I think you'd probably pull the car off whatever is supporting it before that comes undone.

I don't envy you.. why not have a go with the more powerful air/impact gun?

All the best
