Why is it that in an otherwise empty space/room/pub, someone will always come and sit next to you invading your personal space.

It happens in queues too where people will stand so they are touching you.

I was in a empty pub last week with my wife and little one enjoying a leisurely lunch.

We chose an empty corner out of the way as we had a buggy and needed a high chair.

Some female came and sat on the table next to us on her own, requiring us to move the buggy so she could sit down.

I know its a free country but really????? There were a million other seats to choose from!!!!!

The Bloody General Public......can't stand 'em:lol:

Basic psychology - we are a pack animal really. Same reason, if there are two cars parked in an otherwise empty car park, they will probably be parked together.

Still bl%dy annoying though:mad:

Yesterday I had to stand on the train all the way from Richmond to Waterloo, and then guess what I had to stand all the on my next train from Waterloo East as far as Sidcup :(

There is no such thing as personal space on a train in rush hour.

I always park in far corners of car parks so that my GTV doesn't get bashed and so I can swing the doors open with abandon. However when I return there is always at least one other car park beside me despite there being loads of empty space in the area we're in.

I must be getting old cause it really makes me feel like Victor Meldrew.

A woman I work with is OOOOOOOOOOOOOObese, she smells, and wears nothing but lycra stretched around the gallons of flab that ooze over her waist towards her knees.

Whenever she comes and talk to you she probably feels like she's stood quite a long way away but in reality she's so close you have to step away to maintain your personal space, gets on my **** so I avoid her, not very nice I know but what can you do?

Mind you, when I first started working there she was putting away a 2 litre bottle of coke a day so no real sympathy from me.

Yes but thats a bit different. It would be strange if someone came and stood next to you....touching....in an empty carriage.

You'd think you had pulled!!:cheese:

Shops are bad too. The other day in cafe nero I had to ask the person BEHIND me in the queue to excuse me so I could reach my tray of coffee!!!

Its not sad, its because we respect our pride and joy! I've been sitting in my car and some one parks so close and they just fling open their door and wonder why you're giving them the 'what the hell are you doing?' look!!

I try to park in a corner, next to a wall or trolloy park and park as close to the wall as i can to maximise the space on my drivers side....and i'm only 23!! I think I am a grumpy old man!!

Don't move here then.

People in queues (when they aren't pushing in)
have to stand 1cm behind you when
there is plenty of room. WTF is wrong with them?
Some kind of herd instinct they haven't managed to overcome!?!

Grrrrrrrrrrr:mad: one of pet hates - people standing too close to me in queues, I just take longer to move forward and to choose what I want to hack them off. Same with driving I HATE tailgaters and will brake test them

I HATE THIS,

normally does happen in queues and without starting a fight, its normally women,

my tatic is to lean on them, if they get too the point where they are touching you to just shift your weight until they are either taking it or move. The other dirty tatic is to cough at them with out covering your mouth, little britain style.

Not nice to be crowded at all.

A few years ago was sitting in the departure Lounge at Seeb International, a room the size of a football pitch with identical seats throughout. I was sitting all alone in there enjoying a few ciggies when a Eurasian couple with a baby in a pushchair came and sat next to me and then complained that my smoking was harming their baby and so would I put it out ! I of course refused ( would have if the seats next to mine were the only vacant ones ) and continued to chain smoke just to spite them, having let my feelings be known in a polite but very firm manner, they soon moved.......

But why in all those acres of space did they come to sit next to me in the first place, unfortunately for me I am not devastatingly attractive !

It's interesting that nobody has come on this thread saying that they like to snuggle up to their fellow man and are so insecure that they can't park their car any more than one empty space from another. So there appears to be a concensus here that it is WRONG but, it has to be asked, who on earth are these under-evolved apes that would come and stand next to you in the Sahara

**** off and go and be insecure somewhere else :tut: :tut: :tut:

I like travelling the underground during rush hour.. wearing just my swimming trunks. :D

I don't have the problem of people standing too close to me.. (well.. not many!)
