Hi all,

I bought a black 159 a few months back that has been some what neglegted on the bodywork front
- The bonnet is full of stone chips and on the back doors at the wheel arch, the paint is almost white ... not to montion the odd scratch

The car was bought as a daily driver, so this doesn't overly bother me and is low priority to get fixed, however, I have spent some time getting the body work back to as good a state as I can given the above issues

The car got de-tarred, clay bar'd, polished with a paint restorer polish, a general srp polish and waxed, so she's looking as good as she car

Having done all this though, it got me thinking about general weekly and monthly washes and how to do this best

I see no need to clay the car, or polish the car again any time soon, as long as I keep some protection on it ... and on that basis, what should that protection be?

The clay bar is great for removing contaminents on the paint and this is a good thing ... but surely after a wax, these same contaminents get trapped in the wax, so would we not want these removed before we put on any new coating

That would result in a clar almost every wash, but thats a lot of work

Assuming this is not an issue and we look to re-appy wax every month, is it OK just to apply further wax on top of whatever uneven wax coating is left on the car from the previous waxing?

Thanks,

Stephen

I put a sealant on twice a year. Other than that, it just gets washed occasionally. I don't understand the idea of regularly spending hours on a car that is filthy by the end of the week....

Forget the wax and just buy collinite 845 = every 6 months or collinite 476s every 12 months, they are syntetic wax/sealant meaning it was made in a lab to hold for longer then the natural carnuba wax that comes from plants.

General tips: have some quick detailing spray and microfiber towel with you in your car or close by as acid from bird poop can etch into the clear coat if you keep it on for longer periods of time.
Buy some sonax wheel cleaner or Iron X for brake dust decontamination and use some sealant/syntetic wax on the wheels so the dust does not bed into the wheels as easly. All this wax and sealant will only make it easier to clean the dirt and contamination in the future it does not make the car invinsible by any measure.

Generally speaking that would be fine. I would expect most waxes to last longer so may not need to wax monthly but there is not a problem if you wish to.

He is good, but he doesn't get to the point anytime soon does he?

I do try and stick with his videos but very rarely get through a full one.

His video on how he launders his different microfibre cloths was mind numbing.

Figured out that what I am looking for is Quick Detailer, which will top up the wax finish that is on the car
