Hi.

How do you remove the gearbox? I have undone all the bolts (19mm) moved a bit, but I think the other drive shaft (itermediate shaft?) is preventing further removal.
How do i remove this shaft?

Cheers.

There's an intermediate bearing located on the other driveshaft, you have to undo it's retainer to pull the driveshaft out of the gearbox. I assume you have to remove the subframe on a 156?

in order to remove the gearbox without dropping the subframe ther eis a 'method'

you need to

* remove the passengers side shaft from the hub & gearbox

* open all the required 19mm & 13mm bolts

According to an alfa mechanic i spoke to recenelty

* remove the TWO threaded bolts/bar from the gearbox [ that had the 19mm nuts on them ]

* jack up the engine [ removing the lower engine support ] to get extrra height

Now the g/box will move out enough to allow the drivers side shaft to come out of g/box & then will allow the g/box to be rotated in order to clear the subframe

i've not don eit this way but he assures me it'll work...
