Hello all

I've had a look around this site but can't seem to find details on the 155 gearbox ratios.

I've a 2.0 16v and find the box too high, so with a clutch job coming up I have seen a 1.8 16v gearbox for sale and I may swap. Are they different?

All I'm after is a shorter ratio from 1 > 2 > 3 and not worried about scrubbing something off the speed above 90mph as I can very rarely use it.

Any help appreciated

Cheers

Hi Jason,

If i'm correct the ratios for the 16v's 1.8 and 2.0 are the same (same g boxes).

The 8v's 1.8 and 2.0 are different, but i think you won't be able to fit an 8v gear box in a 16v.

Rgds,
Eric

the 2.0 ts has the following

type 167A2D

final drive 1:3.353
1st 1:3.545
2nd 1:2.267
3rd 1:1.541
4th 1:1.156
5th 1:0.942

the 1.8 ts

type 167A4M

final drive 1:3.167
1st 1:3.909
2nd 1:2.238
3rd 1:1.444
4th 1:1.156
5th 1:0.872

there are some 1.8 and 2.0 that are the same it all depends on what 'type' you have.

If anybody wants to make a list of these here are the Q4 ones:

Small body and most wbQ4

1) 3.5
2) 2.176
3) 1.524
4) 1.156
5) 0.917
R) 3.545
F) 3.353 (17/57)

WB Q4 gearchange with a ring to lift up for reverse:

1) 3.5
2) 2.235
3) 1.522
4) 1.156
5) 0.914
R) 3.545
F) 3.353

And it says beval gear pair 2.26:1 no idea what this is but hey it is there somewhere ;-)
And it is in the front aswell as in the back.

Jan.
