The cable attached to my gearbox popped off and the gear stick became limp.

The bushing at the gearbox end of the cable had failed and thus the cable would not stay connected to the gearbox.

For any other frustrated souls below is information regarding replacement gearbox cable bushings for when they wear out.

I appreciate your reply but this kit is incorrect. It is not for the bush on top of the gearbox. This kit is for the gear stick surround.

do you know who supplies the bush for the gearbox cable ends for the V6?

Specifically the bush in the cable end that sits on top of the gearbox.

No i guess he means the rubber bushing which attaches the cable to the gearselector-lever. I saw that someone on this forum had made his own in fluorescent green PU. So you will have to do some searching....
