Hello 166 owners. My car is in great shape except for the gear shift knob (cant see the numbers anymore). Where can i get a new original knob? Is it easy to replace the knob myself? Is it just to spin off the old one and spin on the new one? Thanks

I think you will have to try your local Alfa dealer. They do pull off (with some force, or on later models the knob is attached with a grommet screw) but they are not cheap. Unless someone knows of cheaper I've been quoted £106, which I don't know currency conversions off by heart, but it is a lot of money!

So its still possible to order a new gear shifter knob from the alfa dealer i guess. So what your saying is just to pull real hard straight up on the knob and it should come off, that is if its not the type with a screw holding it on? Where would i find that screw? Thanks

OK, I just removed the little alfa badge on the gear shift knob, removed a little black blob of sillicone that held on the badge and found no screw there at all, just metal. Then i drank a Red Bull and used all the power that i could to pull the knob off but it was stuck rock solid! I guess i need special factory tools to remove it. So no point in buying a new one if i cant get off the old one.

Hello,

For some time I'm anxiously trying to find the original knob with the badge for my 166 3.0 6-Speed Manual, 2001.

My question
------------
I *think* the 166 original knob with Alfa Badge is ePER 156021700 the "OpenWork Leather" model - can someone approve this info?? and if yes what is your local dealer charge for it?

as the ePER pops up several other numbers as well for my car - like the 156018054 etc.

so I'm not sure, not mentioning that google failed finding picture of it with webstores and actually find it at all...

I'm from Israel, and this part would have to be imported as 99.9% of the 166s here are 3.0 Sportronic and not manual,
Also, eBay doesn't currently offer an alternative for the past 3 months
And I don't like the MOMO knobs that some people have chosen as replacements...

Thanks in advance!

I have just had mine replaced & have the packaging in front of me. Yes the ePER number is the same, item description (in Italian) is Kbob Leva Cambio (In Pelle Traf) which is the open leather version. Cost £114 though!

Hello Avi,

the part number is right 156021700. I can offer you the knob for Euro 135,00
incl. TAX. It is in stock.

Best regards
Your Italia Ricambi Team

Two quick questions:
1- is your price including Tax? maybe this is the difference
2- Does your store sends worldwide? if yes - I'd appreciate your store details :)

Thanks again for finally assuring the part number and fit!
I'm sure when you look at it you forget it's price

Hello!!! So how did you replace it? Or someone did? Brutal force I reckon...or is there something that might help....?

Thanks!

Avi,

The GBP-Euro conversion would I expect be roughly the same price. I got it from my garage I take my 166 to which if you want, I can give you details, but they ordered the knob straight from Italia Ricambi themselves, so order direct.

IKE, yep, brute force to pull the knob out of it's socket, it's a tight fit.
