I have a 2001 6 speed GTV v6 which has developed a fault where the gear leaver isnt centering anymore. Could this been something as simple as some spring coming loose or is it likely to be something else? All gears are still easily accessible, with no crunching.

Thanks in advance.

I've had this too. A bush needs replacing beneath the gearstick. My specialist did this for me 2-3 years back, perfect ever since. The non-centering feels very odd and makes it feel as if you're driving some worn out motor, but it's just a rubber bush that needs to be changed. Find a local Alfa specialist and get it sorted – asking for a quote in advance of course...

My Alfa specialist has resolved this for me, it was a seized joint on one of the linkages, what a difference. Power flex bushes next.. Thanks all for your advice

Stephen - do you have any more precise info on this or exactly what to do. Mines been like this for a while. Specialist suggested it is the linkage unit on top of the gearbox - either strip it down or replace the whole lot (about £80 apparently). Alternatively, could you give me your man's contact details so I can speak to him directly?

mine had something like this - put some spray grease on the linkages at the bottom/back/right of the engine bay and after a couple of days felt as good as ever

My specialist is called McLennans Garage in Loadhead - they stripped the linkages down, cleaned and lubricated them - good as new. Aparantly it is a common fault on these - they just seize up after time.
