Have done this myself. Phoned Alfa dealer (nottingham), any will do. Faxed radio details and log book and ID and then phoned back for my code. Took 2 hours and they were more than helpful. I think there should have been an 10 quid admin charge but they forgot.
Once I had code wrote it own my owners book!

Depends, Blaupunkt radios can be done via remote codes/code generators, Alpine need to either have correct code or be sent to specialist.

No need for removal tools, get a coat hanger, chop out the straight section and bend into u shape (need one of these for alpine and two for blaupunkt). Insert ends into holes on fascia of stereo to press the clips and pull radio out.

The code for my radio and the one in a friends 156 were written on a white label on the outside surface of the cigarette ash tray in the centre of the dash. Just pulled it out to clean one day and there is a sticker with R/C and then my radio code number. Both 1999 with Alpine cassette players in.
