i have a 1986 series 3 spider with injetion, US import.

the problem i have is i was out driving and the car broke down. it had blown the fuse for the fuel pump. i replaced it and it started and tic over ok. but when you put your foot on the gas it blown the fuse again. could it be the fuel pump is faulty and blowing the fuse all the time.

thanks

I presume we are talking "Jetronic" rather than "Motronic" on your spider? My S4 (motronic injection) doesn't have a fuse for the fuel pump (well, for either fuel pumps, as the S4 has 2 fuel pumps, one IN the tank, one under the car), but it does have a relay....what number fuse are you talking about? It is important to see what else this fuse protects, as THAT might be the problem, and you are immediately thinking "fuel pump"??

If your "fuse" only protects the fuel pump, then it could be the intank pump (if you have one!) - take it out and check the wires are not shorting, this was a common fault on some GM cars.
To be honest, I dont like the thought of an "in tank" electrical short!
