Could be just a dent, cant see why they would put a dimple there as part of the manufacturing process.
To create a negative(recess) feature on an A Surface would be very difficult as it requires material to be added to the moulding tool. And it would be feathered at the edges to create the radiused blend. Otherwise there’d be a new tool made. This could be needed anyway if a different material is used which has a different shrinkage rate when it cools down out of the mould. Or it could always have been there , like on the Stelvio..

So far and almost 3 years in mine still seems to be OK. (y)

You lucky thing!
I was just glad the flap is on the passenger side so I didn’t have to see the flat version it became!
