hi guys. how is the plastic undertray fitted to the car undernreath the engine. When i look at it from the drivers side wheel the rear fastening seems loose. It just seems to turn round and round. Is it not a bolt then that should just screw in?

Yes it is a bolt but they can rust quite bad.

ok, so its the bit the bolt is meant to go into that is not catching properly it seems.

my MY07 159 saloon has seized undertray bolts so parts of the undertray are now held on with cable ties. Doesn't look pretty but who's going to see

yep as others have indicated, rusty threads, the bolt screws into a crimped/stamped collar in the subframe, when the bolt seizes the whole lot spins when you try to undo them.

sounds like whats happened to mine as it loose and rattles

has anyone removed the undertray and not bothered to put it back?

would it cause a problem if left off

I had mine off for about a week while I sourced a new sump plug after the old one wouldn't budge. Had no problems but I think I would worry if the car bottomed out on a speed hump and hit the sump on the road.
