I mentioned the Tonale when I spoke yesterday with an Alfa representative at the Savile Row concours. He said it’s needed to get more women customers for the company.
Suits you Sir?I mentioned the Tonale when I spoke yesterday with an Alfa representative at the Savile Row concours. He said it’s needed to get more women customers for the company.
I see plenty of women driving Giuliettas, Mitos, 916 Spiders, 147s, so what draw would the Tonale have?I mentioned the Tonale when I spoke yesterday with an Alfa representative at the Savile Row concours. He said it’s needed to get more women customers for the company.
Instead of the Tonale they should have offered a true Giulietta replacement to compete in the small family hatch segment. They could have even fitted the 280BHP engine from the Giulia with a fit of fettling and given a hot hatch variant. Those sorts of cars seem to be still selling well in the current climate.Another example of why AR continuously under perform vs their opportunity. I am a life long AR fan and own/have owned more than 2 dozen of their cars.
I had this conversation with my AR dealer principal. What they need is a great small car which brings in the young buyers who will become the life long fans of tomorrow. My first AR was a Sud Ti GC and my sons first car was a Mito 170. The pool that AR swims in currently is littered with better perceived cars, most of which are cheaper vs the AR equivalent. This makes it almost impossible to pull people away from the Germans, Swedish and Far East competitors.
It’s gutting for me to see their continued failure as I love the brand and the Giullia and Stelvio (I have owned multiple version of each) are awesome cars.
Its about time AR got its act together and produce a small fun fast dynamic car that will appeal to the younger generation and address pricing and reliability to really grow the base.
That could be down to BMW removing the 1 series unique selling point of RWD, and buyers are buying other cheaper FWD hatches instead.1 and 2 series sales last year were 37% down on 2021
Tonale owner here! I have a GTV 3.0 V6 and have owned 2 x Giuliettas and 1 x Mito previously. I’m a big fan of the Tonale now I’ve had it for a couple of months. It definitely looks better in the flesh. I have PHEV Veloce with 20” teledials and full leather. The infotainment and screens definitely deserve some credit as they’re very slick, have excellent graphics and allow a lot of customisation and settings. They particularly show EV info well. There are a few elements of the interior that are finished cheaply but a far cry from previous Giuliettas. Refinement and ride are also noteworthy. It’s a very quiet drive, especially in EV mode and the lack of road noise / ride on 20” wheels is impressive. The PHEV elements are well implemented also, it is almost unoticeable when it switches from EV to engine and vice versa. EV only mode is excellent, enough range to carry out those shorter journeys and plenty of power available just using the rear wheels. Finally the steering and handling deserve a mention - I think these still make you aware that this is an Alfa and you really can put the car through it paces with confidence. Dynamic mode has more than enough power for smiles! The DNA dial in the Tonale really feels like you’ve got 3 different cars in one depending on your mood or journey type. I love it!How are you finding it and what is your Alfa owning history? I cannot express just how un Alfa like I found the base model one I hired. Until I saw one in the flesh and then drove one I was set on buying one. I totally accept that we all have different expectations and car needs but I found it such a disappointment given the pricing and my previous Alfas.
