The gear lever in my 147 seems to be very floppy with a huge range of movement, short of taking it right out and putting in a chavvy short-shifter and/or an H-gate, is there a convient way to firm things up a bit?

There only decent thing to do is to change the selector which is situated on the top of the gear box. An easy fix for a mechanic with the right tools!

there are 2 different problems with the 147 petrol models.

1. STIFF gearstick, doesnt spring to centre in neutral.

2. FLOPPY gearstick, generally wobbles around far too much.

Both are different fixes. Stiff gearstick its fixed on top of the gear box, floppy gearstick is fixed by replacing the gearstick vessel which is the white plastic base at the bottom of the gearstick itself, replaced from under the car.
