i own an alfa 156 1.8 tspark w reg. Ive just had a reconditioned engine put in about 3months ago. It seems a bit flat below 3000rpm in 1st,2nd & 3rd. once upto 3000rpm its like s**t off a stick, can anyone give me a reason for this. thanks Rob
I suppose the obvious one is the cam timing. This would have to be checked with th elock-up tools though.
Another thing to check is does the variable inlet tract length operate as it should. It should go short at about 4500rpm, but if it is stuck or disconnected it could have that effect. It is a vacuum operated lever on the driver's side of the black plastic inlet manifold near the power steering reservoir and pump. You could disconnect it and secure the lever in each position and see how this affects the engine.
It should be a long tract length to improve low and mid range torque.
It should be short for better performance above 4500rpm (approximately).
