I managed to unscrew the connector inside the door through the speaker hole and lo and behold the check strap bracket attaching it to the door had completely broken, no wonder it was not holding the door in place.

now I have another problem I tried removing the torx screws (using the right torx bit as well) but there were so damn tight I couldn't budge them and the screw has started to shred, now I can't get a decent purchase with the torx bit.

any suiggestions? I see the only way now is to take the door off and go at it with the drill... :(

To the OP. The Ribe bits have a wider spline than torx so if you haven't shredded the head too much you may get away with buying the correct Ribe bit as it will fill more of the available space.

I think I managed mine with a Torx bit but then mine weren't that tight - seems I was lucky!

I just had to google Ribe. They appear to be fashionable in Alfas and Fiats. They must have an italian fastner company specialising in them..

Damn it one of them was shredded a little nasty i have my doubts about getting it out conventionally, they seemed very tight in there.

will get a Ribe bit and try that before removing door.
