Hello AO Forum,

I'm an AROC member and I'm on my 5th Alfa, obvious from my user name, its a 2001 2.4 JTD Sportwagon.

It is my first diesel and somewhat of a revelation as my previous Alfa's have been 2 x 3ltr V6 164's, 1 x TS 166 and lastly a 166 Super Lusso 3.0 V6.

I'm 6' 4" and was worried about the switch into a 156 as I always imagined they would be just too cramped but in fact it has been fine, less space of course, however it has not compromised my enjoyment in the drivers seat although my family miss the general luxury of the 166 and the extra space in the rear seats.

I do miss the sound of the 3ltr V6 engine but the JTD 2.4 is a fantastic engine, I am naturally more hesitant and cautious when overtaking more than one car in appropriate conditions but the overall
benefits, in particular fuel savings, do make up for it.

I found this site whilst researching info after my auxillary drive belt had melted due to the auto tensioner seizing up.

In the process I found myself a very good independent Alfa specialist, Ferdi's Garage in Lytham St Annes nr Blackpool, Lancs who sorted it along with a 96k service at the same time.

Ferdi had the car for two days and I'm now back on the road with it feeling better than ever.

hi guys, thanks for the welcome. I've posted an avatar in a very frivolous moment. I'm sure I could'nt handle either but have a feeling service on the motor might be a tad more managable. On second thoughts I'll stick with my JTD, I can afford that one and it's from the same stable in an historical sense!

Welcome to the fray! Not sure if I see 50mpg that often. Badly want better economy from our 147.
My son has been considering a 147, it would his first Alfa. I presume yours is a diesel but how do you find general reliability etc and may I ask what sort of age the car is?
