Unfortunately, it's an 11 year old Nissan Micra.

Cash flow problems have postponed 159 ownership.... but only for a few months:)

The Micra is surprisingly good:rolleyes:

Alfa,s. Cheap. ????

I ended up with a hired micra once, not all bad. If you can get by with a micra do you need something as big savage 159?

Usuallly I drive a Defender, which I'll be keeping, but intend to buy a 159 next spring. The cash flow situation is complicated, part is work related but part, sadly, involves the proceeds of a late relatives estate. When both are finally sorted, I'll buy my Alfa, but in the meantime I'm saving what I've got, and bought the cheapest car to buy & run I could find!

Strictly speaking, most of us could "get by" with just about anything, even public transport! I do need a car for work, as I see patients at home, but I don't need an Alfa, nor do I need my bike. Doesn't mean I don't want one though!

AND..
My defender broke down on Christmas Eve, something has siezed in the front axle!:(

Seems it'll be cheaper to buy a used axle than to have the old one stripped & fixed. I could buy a recon one, but it'd cost more than the Micra! (Micra - £730, Axle £900!)

eBay here we come!

I know an Alfa owner that had a previous shape Micra and they said it was an OK drive but the styling was odd, and another car buff I know borrowed a relatives and they said it wasn't too bad at all.

Why can't I find something like that?

As for your suggestion on where to park my car, it'd probably fit!

Incidentally, my girlfriend has decided it should be named "Wendy", and despite my protests, texted her friend with this news.... which means all my friends will hear by the end of the day, which was several hours ago...

Let 'em laugh, the Alfa Fund should be on target in about three months, then they'll be jealous, oh yes they will!:D:D:D

The world is awash with cheap 156s and 147s. I had planned to MoT mine and sell it in the new year but cars with an MoT in similar nick to mine are making the sort of money Jon has paid for that 147. Given the high price of scrap at the moment, I'm going to get more out of it selling parts then weighing in the rest.

Dropped into the garage today, the problem with the Land Rover isn't the axle as first thought, it's the gearbox seizing! It's going to a gearbox specialist for a check up:eek:

an emergency set of wheels like a Micra is a sobering and refreshing reminder of the difference between a need and a want.

Yup! Hopefully it can be repaired, if not a recon gearbox is about £450, I think a transfer box is about the same. Labour should be about £250 (And that's because I know the garage owner), and it's probably best to change the clutch. The front propshaft joints need done too - I'd normally do them myself, but seeing as the prop's coming off anyway...
