alfa outsold jaguar
That is because Alfa was selling mainly MiTo and Giuliettas - not in the same sector as Jaguar. The two companies have usually been in the same league on registrations but now Alfa have moved their demographics into a predominance of smaller vehicles where sales are higher.

Jaguar had a poor month with sales down 14.6% but have still outsold Alfa in 2011 with 1083 registrations vs 879 for Alfa.

However, as Alfa are still working on fulfilling early orders for Giulietta their UK registrations are up almost 47% on last year, whereas Jaguar are 17% down - showing the clear effect of introducing the Giulietta and the increasing popularity of Alfa. Seems like they are actually building cars that people WANT and can afford.

MG? Can you still buy an MG? I didn't know that.

Not exactly a stunning performance when you think of how many dealers there are around the country.

Then again, Alfa does very little fleet business unlike all of the top dozen or so.

I wonder how many private/retail sales are made by the top sellers? That would be interesting to see.

Certainly a significant number of BMW sales are to private owners - I have no idea what that figure is, but I am sure that it far exceeds the total number of Alfas sold. Considered to be a "safe" purchase when its your own money.
VW also appeal to private buyers - Fox, Golf, Polo, Touran etc.
Not sure about Mercedes Benz

Surely the fact that this is febuary registrations - i.e. just before the new 11 plate, will have a big impact on the relatively low figures here.

Onwards and upwards ey?

Certainly see alot of Mito's / Guiletta's round the airport, Alfa must have a good deal with the car rental companies!

New "MG" is not a Proton which is Malaysian. but from the Chinese Company that bought MG from the collapse of Rover (SAIC) I think ... the Chinese are coming to Europe just like the Koreans did 10 years ago. They do final assembly of the MG in Birmingham, launch of the new model is in April I think ... those 6 MG's will be of the 2 seater sports car...
