My alfa 156 2.0 jts went into safe mode last week,it said motor control system failure.I took it to a garage who don't specialise in alfa.mangoletsi knutsford are well over priced.140 quid just for diagnostics.the diagnostics said it was a faulty throttle position sensor.they said they could do it.but when they spoke to alfa re part, they said they could only supply the whole throttle body at 320 quid.they suggested I get the part myself of the internet.this has proved difficult.I am not even sure what is the correct part.then alfa specialists in haslingden said they would supply a used full throttle body and fit it for 160 quid.the problem is is I live in Northwich, haslingden is 50 miles away.I would have to stay there for hours.does anybody know of anybody in Cheshire who can do this.the guys in Northwich said they would fit it cheaper.but I'm worried they don't know alfas.after all I have a tapping when accelelerating and they said change the oil and filters.this didn't work so I paid for nothing.help guys

I had A similar issue with my maserati. Dealer wanted $9000 Australian dollars to replace it. I ended up buying a new one from the uk, flew it over and I stalled it for under $1400. so £320 sounds good if you are used to owning other Italian cars lol.

Also I don't thnk it would take hours to replace the throttle body, only took 15 minutes to do the maserati one and throttle bodies are usually very easy to get to on almost every car I can think of. Probably do it yourself and take it to any old service place afterwards with the right diagnostic tools to reset the engine fault light.

It isn't really a hard job at all. What brand throttle body do alfa use? Miglia or bosch?

Bosch I think.I'm no good with cars though.I wouldn't trust myself.I've only had the car 2 months.I had heard alfas were not reliable.I'm beginning to find that a lot of mechanics won't touch them.proper alfa authorised will rob you blind and that they are more temperamental than a footballers wife.I do love the car but the problems seem to be mounting up.its whether I can afford the constant cost.hopefully this will be the end for a while
