I think I have a problem with my resistor on radiator. When it reaches over 95 on temp guage the high speed fan comes on! The low speed fan doesnt seem to be working at all.
In this months car mechanics book it says this is a common problem to.

Mine did his after i bodged the broken resistor rather than buy a new one. Its not a problem if the noise of the fan doesn't worry you.

if you bridge the two wires going into the resistor, then the fan will run at full speed at 90, not 95. It then runs for shorter periods.

Is it a main dealer part only? Anybody know how much they cost?

Dont fancy bodging it to be honest.

Just link the two wires, it'll be fine.

I bridged mine ages ago as a temporary fix, just until I get a new resistor ( £40ish ).
I'd forgotten all about it until I read this :lol:
Easy temp bodge though, just two spade ends and few inches of wire. Bridge it in the plug... job done.... temporarily you understand :d:

Are there any things to look out for when changing the resistor ? ie screwheads snapping, fan shroud breaking, you know, the little pitfalls that hide in the simplest looking job

The scews need lots of pressure to undo so also best to hold back of fan housing. Ye thats weird mine comes on with aircon on to.

Take the two wires that go to the resistor and connect them together.
Two 1/4" male spade connectors and a piece of wire, or if you are desperate a fuse (but use a fuse rated higher than the normal fan fuse).
