Interesting Mk1 Mexico trivia ( or maybe not interesting!):

On cars without the decals the badges on the front wings said "Mexico", on cars with decals it was "1600GT".

The Mexico was homologated at 1601cc; engines were, in fact, standard 1600 crossflows. They arrived at 1601 by calculating swept volume using top limits for bore & stroke. Very useful when your company paid car mileage allowances in two band, under & over 1600. . . had to take my logbook in to prove that I had an over-1600 Escort!

Apologies for the crap picture quality!

Reminds me of a story I heard years ago about those “woody” Cortina mk1 estates. They used to get the Design studio modellers to apply the wood transfers.

Some version or other of the C63 has some decals down the side at the bottom. It doesn't look half as naff as I would expect such a thing to look on a modern car.

Someone should totally post a picture of a non-M BMW with M-car coloured decals attached to the grille and see if it makes Keith's head explode.

I couldn't possible, as a mod I have to exhibit better behaviour.

It wouldn’t just be Keithyboy’s head that explodes. :)

Technically the Lotus Cortina was paint rather than a stripes but I'm racking my brain to come up with something older with go-faster stripes in the UK.

There are certain car makers I associate with stickers and stripes. Ford and Renault spring to mind. I couldn't think of a Merc with anything like that. It always seemed that the faster they were, the less inclined they were to shout about it.

Apart from that Red Pig, which was covered with them, and (whisper it) looked horrendous.

Although more because of the lights than the decals.

Here's the C63 with them. Fairly understated.
