Don't think so, the cam variator is a mechanical device and costs around £200 for the part alone. Is the exhaust cam variator the same as a exhaust solenoid. If so I had the exhaust solenoid replaced on my 2.2 JTS due to the EML coming on and this put the light out for about four months but then the car started to have a misfire and the EML came back on and I had the inlet solenoid replaced and all has been ok for the last 20 months. My car did have a new timing chain done in SEP 2013 at 32,000 miles.
No need for a new timing chain. I had my variator changed last year.Has anyone had the exhaust cam variator changed on their 2.2 JTS and, if so, did this require a timing chain change at the same time?
Did you have any symptoms or was it simply a case of the EML coming on and with the relevant code?No need for a new timing chain. I had my variator changed last year.
EML. Only. I am used to the hesitancy at the lower revs, although I tend to drive around this now I've had the car for a year and the remap. The garage I use are very familiar with this engine.Yes, Lord of the Beard, what symptons did you experience? Hesitancy or just an EML?
Thanks for the info Lord of the Rings but just to clarify, when I say 'hesitancy', I don't mean the initial hesitancy on pulling away which affects many 2,2s but mine feels more like a misfire and the only way to drive around it is to floor the accelerator, an action which is not always advisable.EML. Only. I am used to the hesitancy at the lower revs, although I tend to drive around this now I've had the car for a year and the remap. The garage I use are very familiar with this engine.
