Good old ships them Ladas... bought a few Nivas for a procurement my firm did once. 1/3 the price of a Nissan Patrol, a bit unreliable (nothing you couldn't fix with a lump hammer and screwdriver) but generally tough as old boots.

I didnt, but my dad did. I was too young to drive the car in that time, but I remember it well. It was a Lada. It served for 18 years with very few problems. Not a complicated car, a screwdriver and hammer was enough for most of repairs :) Not much electronics, only russian steel :) RWD with all the weight in the front. I remember in winter we drove with 100 kg of concrete bricks in the trunk to have some grip on the wheels. :) :)

Couldn't agree more. The one I had was given to me by a family member who gave up driving because of old age. It drove like a barge, but a rock solid car it was. I had it for three months while I was trying to shift it.

Nope, but I'd love a Lada if I had space to keep it, I'd pep it up a bit, I imagine it'd be like driving a mk2 Escort. I always wanted a Skoda Rapide too, to tune the sh*t out of and drive it like a cheap 911 :D

Not owned one, but travelled in plenty.

Volgas are really comfortable; don't knock em till youve tried em.
