well i got the updated figs today for Jan-Feb 2008 European sales, so heres how the Italian's faired...

winners...

Fiat 500 (surprise!!) outsold BMW's Mini by over 6000 units @ 28061
Fiat Bravo, with a better choice of engines is now selling about 10000/month, @ 19903 for Jan-feb
Ferrari sold 598 compared with 472 same period 2007
Maserati OUTSOLD Ferrari with 633 sold (441 jan-feb07)

Losers...
Everything Alfa (but they have just re-opened the factory!) particulary the 166, two months into 2008 & not one sold!
Fiat's Panda & Punto both down (the effect of the newer 500?)
as is Lancia's Ypsilon (definitley effected by the 500)

so how do italians compare with their main rivals. (all Jan & feb 08)
Alfa 147 5232, BMW 1 Series 26376
Alfa 159 6926, BMW 3 Series 37785
Alfa 166 0, BMW 5 Series 16890, Lancia Thesis 126

Fiat 500 28061, Mini 22508, Renault Twingo 21599, Lancia Ypsilon 13698
Fiat Punto 58039, Pug 207 77573, Renault Clio 62738, Ford Fiesta 54895
Fiat Bravo 19903, VW Golf 79419, Ford Focus 63966,
Fiat Croma 6415, VW Passat 42750, Ford Mondeo 30559
Fiat Idea 3120, Renault Modus 10879, Lancia Musa 7418, Opel Meriva 20108

Obviously i could go on & on with figs, but if anyone wants more details just ask, BTW i only have figs for europe as a whole not individual countries.

I thought the 166 isn't made anymore?

Do you have any Alfa 159 vs Audi A4 figures?
i'll double check if the 166 is actually still made (even if its not though Alfa would still have stock to get rid of)

i'll post 159 vs A4 figs tonight. (they won't make for good reading though!

166 production ended last year. And there is no stock left either. Maybe 3 or 4 left in Europe but that must be it.

The last stock car in NL (a 3.2) was sold at the end of 2007.

afraid not, Alfa are still producing the 166, now the factory has re-opened they built 12 in March, also if it were the fact that they ended production last year, given Alfa's track record i doubt very much they would have produced JUST 4 more units that the market wanted, car companies rarely get supply/demand ratio that right:D

Where did you get that information? As I doubt they are building them let alone in the reopened factory. The 166 was never built in Pomigliano d'Arco, so I don't think they set up a new production line costing millions to produce a handful of cars.

actually where the 166 is my mistake, they don't build it in the factory thats just re-opened.

But the figures are spot on as they come from Automotive News Europe who inturn get their figs from Jato Dynamics

I had one as a hire car in Switzerland a few years back (it was all they had left :() I drove it on snow and ice.... and it was quite good fun.

But.... I guess I wasn't able to really test it.... I thought it was quite good as a little runabout

I assume they deliver figures about registered cars and not produced cars. And I can also imagine 12 stock 166s were registered this year yet were produced last year.

the figures produced by ANE/Jato for "sales" are registrations, & the 12 166's i mentioned were built in March not registered

ANE/Jato very kindly have two tables each month detailing vehicles built & vehicles registered.
