My engine decided to drop its guts on the A38 yesterday at 60mph, so id like to guage opinions on what may have caused it, and where to go from here!
What i know (which may be irrelevant).. The engine has always been a bit noiser than i think it should be and i was on my way to the garage to get it checked out and tuned up when the incident occured!..
The day before i had an intermittant noise i handnt heard before. I can really explaing the noise, it was kind of like radio signal crackling.. which i 'though' sounded like it was a timing issue..
I also started to get quite a smell of petrol vapour in the car..
Just before the engine let go, the crackly noise came for about 5-10 seconds, and the let go.
I had some smoke coming out the exhaust and some out of the bonnet, with a trail of fluid behind!
Pooled under the car was a lot of fluid that looked like a mixture of oil and water, sitting in the middle of that was a gudgeon pin.
I also lost a fair few engine parts further down the road.
I have to smallish holes in the side of the crank case, one higher one lower, And one massive hole at the lower back side.
So!.. What could have caused this?
And what is the most cost effective way of getting the car back on the road?
Is it worth rebuilding the engine?
Ialways wanted to put a bigger engine in, like 2ltr.. What would be the cost of a rebuilt 2ltr?
