So, the engine undertray of my 156 GTA is hanging loose again (after countless visits to my AR specialist). Shall I just replace it with the OEM, or are there better options?

Thanks!

It stops the engine bay getting dirty. Just go for an OEM one, there are metal alu ones available but they are expensive.

I can only speak of my experience with getting an ally tray from alfisti.net. It took a bit of fettling to get it to fit properly but I'm happy with it now, plus I know it's going to last. The only downside is the ground clearance you lose. My car is lowered 30mm and iirc I have 80mm clearance. As soon as I installed it I wanted to take it off again but it's not been too bad, I just have to avoid straddling the 'straddle' type humps otherwise it will scrape. I would say if your car isn't lowered get an aluminium tray.

Thanks all for your replies. I guess it's a good thing to keep the engine bay as clean as possible - I think I'll just go for the OEM one.

Fit an alloy one. It is amazing how much cleaner the engine bay stays. They are not expensive compared to most parts for a GTA

My metal one fell apart after about 3 years. They do take quite a beating!

Do you mean cleaner than with the OEM one?
Sorry i should have been more specific. Mine never had an undertray, the palstic OEM was removed by previous owner. But i have seen the plastic trays and they don't seem to fit too well.

Alloy tray is defo alot better than no tray obviously :)

My Aluminium undertray was still going strong after more than 10-years.
The original plastic OEM undertray resorted to cableties after only two years...

What on earth were you doing to have an Aluminium one fall apart?

As for cost, at the time I got mine, the Aluminium undertrays were slightly less than OEM plastic ones.

Mine is slightly lowered and it would get a severe bash from time to time. Finally one of the side mountings broke and it sagged a bit more, before finally giving up the ghost a little while later. It also ate into the oil cooler pipes and flattened them off. (Pretty sure it was the oil cooler pipes. maybe power steering pipes.)

Hmmm, my Aluminium undertray didn't have any side mountings at all and never sagged.
It just used the fixings along the bumper edge at the front and the two bolt fixings at the rear.

Where are these metal under trays available from please?
Originally from Zeatek here. But there have been issues with supply from there lately.

Or a copy of the Zeatek undertray (even using Zeatek's pictures!!) from here.

Update: turns out the undertray was not loose, just sagging in the middle. My local specialist was able to straighten it, and didn't charge for job: +1 for Bonello Auto Services
