Hi ALL WHAT A GREAT SITE

I have purchased a project 1996 alfa spider and looking to fit a new engine
I have the chance of a low miles 166 engine out of a 2000 model
I know it has lots of modern bits but ideally need to utilise the block and the head

will it work and has anyone done it

cheers
steve

It will work but you will have to change all the parts that are different on the outside.
If the 166 is a 6pd get the gearbox as well.
The modifications to fit it will be a bit more but worth every minute. Down side is the Speedo will not work so if that will be a problem don’t use the gearbox. Rather sell it to someone with a PH2 TS since it will be easier to fit in them.

If you are talking about a 2.0 engine there is a lot of work to do to make the 166 engine fit in a GTV - probably the same for the V6......on the 2.0 essentially all the ally castings on the front (cambelt-end) of the engine need changing....

As said, you'll need to strip it back to basically the block and head - all the ally castings on the front oif the engine will need to be changed - and the sump is different too......

The main thing is it will work just change all the bits that’s not the same.
